A dialysis patient was in the hospital for cough, fever, diahrrea and came to the office for follow up visit. The patient no longer had any symptom of why he was in the hospital. What kind of diagnosis codes should be used for this visit since he was no longer sick. We charged it as an MCP visit but I think we should be able to charge for his follow up but did not know what to use for diagnosis. Would it be appropriate to use the reasons that he was in the hospital even though it has resolved? We did not know this until he was examined. Thanks for any help.
