Does anybody know anything about billing for a hospital owned physician practice? My doctor's practice is being bought and run by a hospital and I need to know what, if anything, I will need to do differently. Thanks.

You should still do things the same way, with the exception that the hosptial has some different reporting processes, or possibly they have certain criteria for certain tasks. Basically though, you shouldn't have to make any big changes. Good luck!

Who will own equipment?

If the hospital will own Xray, EKG, ultrasound, or other equipment that physician previously owned, they you might be using the -26 modifier (Professional Component) more often.

Hospital Owned Practice

We are a Critical Care Access hospital, Physicians are owned by the hospital. Medicare requires a different process. We have to add the physician charge to the hospital charge. We send 1UB-04 with the total charges for the day. This is split out by facility and professional fee. It does get complicated, but onece your used to it, it goes smooth.
