Hello -

I am looking for guidance on Hospitalist E/M Coding.

Hospitalist A does an H&P at 2 AM, bills (99222).

Hospitalist B is doing rounds at 8 AM and bills a Subsequent on the same patient (99232).

Let's say the primary diagnosis is the same both times and they are directly employed by the facility and both are credentialed IM. Would it count as 1 service?

What if one was credentialed IM and other FP?

Thanks

Depends on the payer! Medicare (straight) considers MD's and NP's as a seperate "specialty". You can bill a 99222 for both on the same DOS. If it is a commercial payer or both providers were same "specialty" then you would code the highest service performed for that day, so the 99222 would be the only code you would be able to get reimbursed for.
