Female patient age was 38. diagnosis mentioned as Hot flashes and ICD -10 lead to N95.1 . Can we use this Dx for 38 yr old patient or need to use R23.2 ?

Kindly verify the DX?

Pls share if you have any evidence.

I do not use N95.1 unless the provider documents that the symptoms are due to natural, age-related menopause. The book states in that case you would add the R23.2 as a secondary code for the associated symptoms. If it was documented as premature menopause, the correct code would be E28.310.

If the patient is just having symptoms, definitely use just the R23.2. If the patient describes the symptoms as breaking out into sweats or "night sweats", which is common, I use r61 for Generalized Hyperhidrosis.
