Wiki How do you bill MRI visits?

Patient has had an accident and hurt their shoulder. Doc requests that the patient get an MRI. Patient has the MRI and then comes back to review the MRI with doc. My question is: how are you billing the MRI review visit? They are not repeating the history and exam, only reading the MRI and going over treatment options. How do you decide which E/M level to code for this situation?

You would bill it as an E/M but you could ask them to document time spent with patient and bill it that way. It makes it easier for them if they are not documenting the rest of the E/M.
