I would probably not count 'acute' as severity as it is not describing the level of pain or swelling.

Agree with Erin...I suppose you could try to use duration for acute....but I would got with those three.

I would have a tough time giving credit for acute. I would be more likely to use it as a determining factor for which HPI I was going to score (acute vs chronic)

Agree with you ocenalivin - but was using it as some try to use that and if so, I like to hear the reasoning.

Judging by the context, I believe it is meant to describe the severity (Severity) of the swelling in the left knee (Location) from kick boxing (context.) If the chief complaint is knee pain, the swelling is an associated sign/symptom.
