patient came to ER with chest pain and suddenly collapsed, had a cardiac arrest, code blue announced and the team started resuscitation. started CPR and cardioversion for about 20mins and the patient responded and revived back. later again after 10mins, the patient's condition worsens and again CPR done. can we code 92950*2 and 92960

kindly suggest how many codes in this scenario and is there any time frame is there to code CPR and cardioversion.
Thanks in advance

92960, cardioversion, elective, is a scheduled procedure that delivers a low-voltage shock timed with the heart's rhythm in order to get it out of an arrhythmia. Defibrillation is a high-voltage shock to restart a heart or shock it into a normal rhythm in an emergency.

What your provider performed was cpr with defibrillation, not cardioversion; 92960 is not appropriate to bill in this instance.

Emergency defibrillation is included in the CPR code 92950. The provider billing the code does not have to be the person performing the services; he may supervise a team performing cpr and defibrillation. If emergency defib is performed without chest compressions, then 92950 is not billed; you would use the E&M code or critical care code.

Do not include the CPR or time spent doing so in choosing an E&M code for the ER services, or for billing critical care time, since they are reported separately they cannot be counted twice.

I think 92950 still has an MUE of 3, so it can be billed more than once per day.
