Wiki How to find MDM?

It seems like there is a lot of difficulty to find the MDM especially when they have not specified the complexity of the case. Is there any easy way to guess the level of MDM?

The provider generally won't state the MDM in the note, in my experience. If you're assigning the E/M level or auditing an E/M level selected by the physician, you can use an audit tool to break down the note and determine the level of MDM.

There is a free tool for both 2023 and 2021 guidelines on the AAPC website. https://www.aapc.com/tools/

I use that E/M calculator several times a week, because I check all of our E/M levels before the claims go out the door.

There are other audit tools out there. I don't happen to have any links to them, because I just use the AAPC tool.
