I am billing 99455 (disability exam) using a V modifier on a Worker's Comp claim. I have read instructions on how to know which V code to use, for example, if I am billing an E/M code with 99213 - use V3 as the modifier. In Epic when I enter V3, I get an error message that it's an invalid modifier. If anyone can help, please do. Thanks!

I've never coded workman's comp cases before and have never used modifier V3 so I'm by no means an expert. But from the quick research I just did it seems like you're using the modifier correctly.. You say that it's EPIC that's giving you an error. Do you think that it could possibly be something with EPIC itself where it would need to be updated to recognize modifier V3 as a valid modifier?

V3 Level of MMI for Treating Doctor - This modifier would be added to the "Work related or medical disability examination by the treating physician..." CPT code 99455 when the office visit level of service is equal to "low to moderate" level.
