Hi Guys,
I have two reports which were interpreted by one of our Radiologists, after the fact.
Typically, if a report comes thru for US Guidance for a Biopsy, we are not there, so we code the 76942 with a 52 modifier. These reports are so sketchy...can i code 76775, or possibly even 76705? Dr. doesn't say we were there for US guidance....

#1 - ULTRASOUND OF KIDNEY BIOPSY

TECHNIQUE: Grayscale ultrasound of the kidneys pre and post
biopsy with color Doppler.

Findings:

3 passes and 3 samples were taken of the left kidney. There is a
1.6 cm hematoma at the inferior pole.

IMPRESSION

1.6 cm hematoma post renal biopsy.

#2
Interpretation: ULTRASOUND OF KIDNEY BIOPSY

HISTORY:
Renal biopsy for proteinuria

TECHNIQUE: Grayscale ultrasound of the kidneys pre and post
biopsy with color Doppler.

Findings:

5 passes and 4 samples were taken of the left kidney. There is a
1.7 cm hematoma at the inferior pole.

IMPRESSION

1.7 cm hematoma post renal biopsy.

If the physician does not provide "supervision", then he/she cannot bill for "supervision and interpretation". Both criteria are necessary for 76942.

HTH :)
