How to code HSV meningitis in a newborn? The code for HSV meningitis, 054.72, excludes 771.2, the code for herpes in a newborn. Should I use 771.2 and then 322.9, unspecified meningitis of unspecified cause? This does not seem right since the cause is specified to be herpes simplex.
Would really appreciate any guidance.
