Pt has a history of epistaxis and is coming into the specialist. She currently does not have epistaxis and there are no symptoms to report. What dx code would be appropriate? I can't use R04.0 if it isn't current, correct?

I am wondering if the referring provider mentioned that this was recurrent epistaxis or if he/she, actually documented that it was a hx of?

if the patient was referred to a specialist, I would imagine that the problem still exists. the patient wouldn't need to be hemorrhaging from the nose at the moment they are in the office.

I would want to look at the referral (see above), but I think it is appropriate to use the R04.0, IF the specialist is assessing/treating the epistaxis.
