New to the pediatric cardiology world and need help, please. My physician recently performed a hybrid device closure of an ASD. Would this be coded as a Percutaneous transcatheter closure- 93580?

Hi,

If this is open procedure, please check whether cpt 33615.

Regards,
Lavanya Mohan

Hi Lavanya.

Thanks for your response. This was done via a mini thoracotomy that was performed by a CT surgeon to give access for the procedure. The procedure note states "After access was provided by Dr. XX to the right atrial free wall, an angoicatheter was advanced through a purse-string suture into the right atrium. A short j-wire was introduced into the angiocatheter and was advanced into the left atrium under TEE guidance." And the note proceeds to explain the ASD closure. Would this be considered an open procedure?
