Please help :)

I have 2 seperate start times and 2 seperate stop times.
Example:
IV Fluid initiated: 500 ML of normal saline
Start: 7:25 PM
End: 7:45PM
IV Fluid Initiated: 250ML of normal saline
Start: 7:45 PM
End: 8:00 PM

Could you please help me code this as I am not sure since I didn't think we could add times together.

Hydration is the total minutes for a single date of service. You have 35 minutes documented total, 96360. Infusions are all about the math.

Saline and Zofran

I have a question on infusions. I code for an urgent care center.

Quite often I run across scenarios like this:

Patient comes in with nausea and vomiting. They give her the following:

20:57 Normal Saline - .9% 1000ml IV Bolus left antecubital
22:00 Completed infusion
21:00 Zofran ? 4mg IV Bolus left antecubital
21:03 Completed infusion

I?m thinking you would code the infusion for the Zofran first because it was the main reason the patient was seen. I would use 96374 because it was an infusion less than 15 minutes and J2405 for the drug. Would I use 96361 for the hydration? It ran for 56 minutes on its own without any other drug being run at the same time.

Can you let me know if I am doing this correctly?

jackimal is correct since the Zofran only ran 3 minutes this would be an initial push as 96365 requires at least 16 minutes of infusion time to report. Based on the Hierarchy of drugs given in the CPT guidelines therapeutic infusions trump hydration.

1) 96374
2) 96361 x 1

If the saline run is documented KVO (keep vein open) then the hydration code cannot be reported.
