Hello my name is Brenda Price

I am coding E/R charts and we code hydrations, 96360,96361 and pushes 96374,96375 etc. My question is that if we have a piggyback and need to put codes 96365 do we need stop time?. And if we do need stop times and if the infusion is 90 minutes do we use 96365 and 96366. 96366 for the add'l 30 minutes after the first hour (96365)

Question 2 I am aware that we cannot use 96360,96374 and 96365 on same chart because all are initial services. However would the piggyback 96365 supersede the 96360 and 96374 and be entered first, since it is a piggyback

Hello,

You always need a start and stop time for infusion (Hydration, IVP or IV Push) in the documentation. You don't need to put the start and stop times on the claim. The type of infusion and amount of time of the infusion is what will determine which codes you will use.

When I was learning infusion coding, I made myself a little cheat chart and grouped them together by type and then time.

Hope that helps!
