I and d right index mcp joint and dorsal hand

Patient had a cat bite to her right hand and ended up with septic arthritis. The doctor performed an I and D of the right index mcp joint and dorsal hand. I was thinking the codes would be 26011-rt and 26020-59-rt. Could someone give me some feed-back on this? Thanks...Kathy

Hi,

For the MCP joint I & D my hand surgeon uses 26075, arthrotomy with exploration / DRAINAGE / removal of loose or FB, MCP joint. I am not sure about the dorsum of the hand as I dont have operative report but it almost sounds like you could use 11043 to muscle or 11044 to bone. Hope this helps you.
