A physician that we do billing performed an I&D of the leg while the patient was in the hospital. A surgeon was called in for the procedure but was not available so the physician went a head and performed the procedure while he was there for his visit with the patient. My question is, is can he bill for the hospital visit and the I&D? If so, how would we code this? TIA
 
If the document warrants it, it is a significant separately identifiable service and needs to be documented as such.
