10x8x8 cm abscess
15 blade scalpel used to make a transverse incision over the point of maximal fluctuance and blunt finger dissection was used to dissect down into the soft tissue plane with immediate release of significant amount of pus. cultures were taken. Gentle pressure was applied circumferentially squeezing all the pus out of the open incision. this incision was the further opened by using Bovie electrocautery to its entire width completely unroofing the abscess cavity. Blunt finger dissection did note that there was tunneling towards the patient's right side consistent with a 9 o'clock position. curette was used to debride the entire abscess cavity back to healthly bleeding tissue circumferentially. Most of the cavity seen to be made up of the rectus muscle as well as subcutaneous fat. The peritoneal cavity was not entered.
