I could use some opinions on this.... an 84 year old woman has fallen and hit her face; several days later an abscess forms on her face (outside cheek). In the process of perfoming an I & D the physician discovers a piece of a tooth within the abscess and removes it. Do we bill a complicated I & D? a complicated foreign body removal? or is it possible that we could bill both?
Your thoughts?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kim

Hi! I actually just asked this question the other day b/c my physician did an I & D and found a piece of bark in the spot. The advice that was given to me was to use code 10120 or 10121 for Incision and removal of foreign body:subcutaneous tissues either simple or complicated.
