Why isn't this back pain? What exactly IS this? I know there may not be a good answer, really, but this is one of those diagnoses that just gets stuck in your craw, you know? LOL

Dorsopathy just means 'disease of the back', so it's a very non-specific term and probably one that a provider would only use if they knew there was a disease there but really didn't know (or didn't want to say) much more than that. However, remember that 'dorsopathy - M53.9' is very different in that it is not a diagnosis, but a classification. So like any ICD-10 code, it's a placeholder for a class of actually diagnoses, like a shelf in a library - a place to put certain things if the index takes you there. Hope that helps!
