I'm wondering if I can use ICD 10 E11.628 for pt with Type II DM with hx of squamous/basal cell skin cancer or hx of melanoma. Just wondering if it this code would be appropriate for pt's who are Diabetic ( aka immunodeficient) It's not as descriptive so I'm really just not sure if it's appropriate ?
Appreciate any guidance

This is not appropriate coding for a history of skin cancer. Diabetic complication codes are for only used for conditions which are listed in the ICD-10 index under "diabetes with", or for comorbidities which the provider has specifically documented were caused by the diabetes.

Even though the following show up in the Index under with, the key word is 'Complication' not 'Condition' so you cant automatically link these unless MD calls it a diabetic complication.

circulatory complication NEC
kidney complications NEC
neurologic complication NEC
ophthalmic complication NEC
oral complication NEC
renal complication NEC
skin complication NEC

For Skin the only ones that auto link are Dermatitis and Foot/Skin ulcer. They don't list skin cancer because its not a common diabetic complication.
