We recently saw a pt for evaluation of a post surgical wound. We did not perform the surgery. My doctor used dx granulating left inguinal wound. I don't know if I should use the wound code S31.104S or L92.9 for granulomatous tissue. Any suggestions?

Thank You!

Melanie

S31.104S would be incorrect because the codes in that chapter are for traumatic wounds, not surgical wounds. This would be more appropriately coded as a surgical complication (code range T80-T88), with the L92.9 for the granulation as a secondary diagnosis to specify the type of complication.
