Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has any policies currently in place regarding ICD-10? I know that one of the steps of implementation is to update all policies but to be honest I can not find one policy regarding coding in our practice. I am just not exactly sure where to start to create one or what it would entail.

Thanks for the help!

We have a number of coding policies in place to address 'gray' areas of coding, but our primary policy is that we are expected to code to the best of our ability, to the highest degree of specificity, following all regulatory guidance and in accordance with industry standards. We're also expected to maintain our knowledge through continuing education. This is pretty generic, but basically what it means is that for ICD-10, we will be expected to follow all UHDDS defnintions, all federal, state and payer regulatory guidance, all ICD-10 coding conventions and continue to educate ourselves with updates from the AHA Coding Clinic.
