Plastic surgeon saw mother in our office due to her unborn child been diagnosised with a cleft palate. I am unsure how to code.

ICD9 CODE for cleft palate - 749.00 (unspecified). You have to make sure it is just the cheft palate. Cause there are codes if it includes the lip also.

You cannot use the code for cleft pallet 749.00 as the baby has not been born yet. You must use a code for the mother with a fetal abnormality in the 630- 677 range of codes.
