Does anyone know where I can look as a resource/guideline as to which ICD 9 code to use with 92340-92342 Fitting of spectacles.

Thanks,

Karen

According to the 2011 Coding Companion for Ophthalmology, there are a number of different ICD-9 codes that would apply, from 367.0 to 368.9.

I have my book now, so I'm more confident about V53.1. You should also use a code from the 367.X or 368.X range to indicate the nature of their vision problem, as dkeown mentioned, but unless the encounter is chiefly for the evaluation of the problem (which is probably not the case, since you've already got the glasses to fit), I'd refrain from using the problem diagnosis as the primary diagnosis. The V-code more accurately describes the main reason for the encounter, and the problem diagnosis provides more information about the medical necessity of fitting the glasses. Hope that helps! ;)
