How would you code for the following situation-
Pt has distal wrist fracture lets say code S52.552A
Then has malunion S52.552P which is fixed
Now patient is coming if for routine visit after the malunion is fixed what should this visit be coded as S52.552D?

what is your opinion...
Thanks
Padma

There would be no reason to code history of a fracture since this still the same fracture episode. The answer to the post is yes after the repair of the malunion, if the provider indicates it is now healing as expected the 7th character will be a D for a closed fracture.

Yeah that's what I thought too, I was just adding the history for when after it's healed. If they returned for anything regarding the wrist in terms of skeletal reasons. It can be useful to warn care workers of a possibly weakened area.
