Hey all!
I work with a large group of physiatrists. They frequently are following patient's at an inpt rehab facility after some kind of a fracture. Would like some opinions on whether we would use the extension "D" for subsequent care as opposed to "S" for sequelae.
I'm leaning towards the "D" because it falls under "other aftercare following treatment of the injury or condition" as per the Guidelines. However, in the ICD9 world we used the late effects codes quite a bit.
Thoughts?
Thanks!!

I haven't seen anything official for changes in the PT/OT policies yet but we bill similarly for management of the residual effects of their fracture (stiffness, weakness, etc). We have billed with that and the late effect code. Technically you are not treating the fracture you are treating the sequelae that have resulted from the fracture thus I believe you should be using the S not the D. The current guidelines do not state a time frame for the use of the 7th character S. As you know, ICD-9 stated there was no time frame.
