I have been coding for about a year now and I am very interested in becoming an auditor and was hoping I could get advice on what kind of degree I should get or if the CPMA course through AAPC is enough to get a job, any advice would be greatly appreciated ?

It really depends on who is hiring and what they require. Obviously a degree is helpful, but I became an auditor without a college degree, based on my years of experience in coding. Someone gave me a chance and I ran with it. I eventually added coding credentials, (E&M, Compliance) and I am sitting for my CPMA soon. Take your time, get experienced, study the regulations (fraud, stark, etc) and get good at coding E&M! Good luck!!

I signed up for the CPMA course and am sitting for the exam next weekend. My work experience includes 20 years nursing and 12 seasons of HEDIS abstracting and auditing. The CPMA coursework is taking me in a completely different direction than I thought it would. Now, I am considering getting my CPC-A.
