Does anyone know if there is a modifier that can be used to bill for implants (screws) that was opened and not implanted. The physician tried to implant them, but they were not the right size.
Thank You!

there isnt a modifier, but you could send the invoice to the insurance company with documentation in the op note that screws were attempted to be used but they were the wrong size. Its not a guarantee it will get paid by insurance, if it doesnt you can always contact the rep and see if he will donate that particular set of unused screws.
Normally, once an implant is opened -- if we drop it, or physician decides not to use it, the facility eats the cost. But -- if we open it and it is damaged then the rep will not charge for it. Insurance typically will not pay for an implant that was not actually used.
