A patient has a ICD and there are manufacturer issues with the type of RV lead the patient has, so the physician induces ventricular fibrillation to check the integrity of the RV lead. They find the lead is ok, and that is all that is done. Is the CPT code for this induction 93618?

Thanks,

Deb H.

Yes I would bill with that code. 93650/93651 are for ablations and by what you described seems like only induction was done.

93618
The physician places an appropriate arterial or venous sheath, usually femoral, to allow access to the chamber to be studied. The physician advances an electrical catheter though the sheath and into the appropriate chamber under fluoro. Then he attaches the catheter to an electrical pacing device to allow transmission of pacing impulses through the catheter to the chambers of interest, stimulating the heart with rapid pacing or programmed electrical stimulation until arrhythmia is induced.
