We see an inpatient consult for infection due to knee joint prosthesis. We diagnose infection and prescribe a 56 day course of IV antibiotics started as inpatient and then continued in office or at home.

Would the "active" treatment 7th character for ICD-10-CM T84.53X be A for initial for the entire 56 day course of IV ABX treatment since that is considered active treatment of the infection? Sometimes the patients will have a medication adjustment or change during the 56 days as well.

I wrote A or S in the header but meant to write A or D for initial or subsequent!
