Patient comes to OB clinic and has nurse visit to confirm pregnancy, and urine pregnancy test is positive. Nine days later patient returns to clinic for initial 1st trimester ultrasound, 76801, in which patient is dated at 12 weeks. Wouldn't we code the initial visit and pregnancy test with Z32.01 pregnancy test positive? Then code the ultrasound with a Z34 code, encounter for supervision of normal pregnancy, first trimester? Provider is trying to tell me that the ultrasound is to confirm pregnancy and wants to use Z32.01.
