Although I do not have a reference....
I have only coded the 86850 for PPD's...if you were to code 86850 in conjunction with CPT 96372 for a Medicare patient an edit would be generated indicating 86850 as code 1 and 96372 as code 2.

The 96372 is for THERAPEUTIC injections the PPD is not in this catergory so the 96372 is not appropriate by definition.

Debra is correct. Applying the PPD is not coded separately as 96372 ever. Injecting under the skin for the test itself is inclusive.

I was having a problem with this as well. I found in the alphabetical index, under "immunologic skin test", "tuburculosis, 17999". 17999 reads "unlisted procedure, skin, mucous membrane and subcutaneous tissue". Can this be used with the 86580 PPD skin test?

No. 17999 is reserved for those procedures that do not have a code that adequately describes the procedure.
