We were recently audited and an issue came up with a chart that I would like someone's input on please...a patient came in for an I & D of an abscess and the provider ordered injections of Rocephin. One injection was performed at the time of the procedure, the patient was to return in three days for the second injection. I know that we would code for the injection and the procedure with the intial visit, but what about when they returned for the second visit? We did and the auditor said that that was wrong because it falls under the global period. I know that the procedure has a 0-10 day global period attached to it, but if we give treatment during that period, would we not code for it?

That is what I thought as well. I did not think there was a global period attached to injections. One other question...on the follow-up visit for the second injection, we would use 99024 as the EM correct?
