I work for a group of Hospitalist that includes a group of Infectious Disease physicians. We see patients at several different locations with in the same health system. The Infectious disease doctors are calling the the nurse and treating the patients by phone call only at one of our out lying clinics. Can 99441 be billed for the telephone call to treat the patient?? My opinion is No. This isn't a billable service, there are other coders in my office who think it's appropriate to bill as a subsequent visit 99231-99233 and append the telemedicine modifier. Please help with advice on what is appropriate. Thank you.
