Inpatient Coding for Staged Procedures

Hi. I would like to know if staged procedures are done, can we use the previous chart for specificity like when a patient had a fracture? Initially, external fixation was done. Now the patient is back for ORIF. The operative report only stated "external fixators were removed prior to sterilely prepping the patient for ORIF. The bones, where the external fixators were attached, were not mentioned.
