One of our doctors did a consult and a discharge on the same day. Can I choose which one to code or do I have to code the discharge?
 
Hello,

Consultation service only allowed for payment and discharge will included with consultation when both service was rendered by the same physician. As per CMS guideline, only one E/M service was allowed for a single DOS by same group practice and specialty. For inpatient we need to bill with 99221-99223 and outpatient bill with 99241-45.
