I have a patient that was consulted, a procedure performed, and the patient discharged. The patient presented to ED multiple times after the initial surgery. The patient, on the third ED visit, was readmitted and again consulted with a practitioner from the same practice and specialty of the first consulting physician. Is the second consult billable as a consult or should the 99221-99223 code series be utilized? Thank you.
