I am billing for the professional on an LAVH that was converted to TAH. Patient is still in the hospital.

Should I bill the surgery as outpatient or inpatient?

I was thinking it would be outpatient since that is what was expected at the beginning of the surgery?

Any insight would be helpful! Thanks!

I would check with the facility and see how they have the patient listed - inpt or outpt - if your claim and the facility claim don't match as far as POS then that will cause an issue. Usually an open procedure like TAH is inpt but I always look to see how the facility lists the pt. Besides, I need the admit and d/c dates on the claim if inpt so I get all that info at the same time.
