Does anyone have any experience with inpatient psych? Regs and credentialing bodies require a psych eval and medical H&P. Generally speaking the Medical H&P has a psych dx, which will get denied because 2 docs are providing servcie with same dx...Any suggestions?

Why can't the same MD supply both services? This is what I have seen done; the psychiatrist or a PA admits the patient and conducts both exams (which are included in the H&P document). The other option is to ask the carriers if it makes sense (assuming the patient lacks a medical diagnosis) to utilize a V70.X series code as the primary on the medical exam--since this is required for admission and administrative purposes.

Inpatient H & P on the same day as Psych Eval

Some psychiatrists are willing to do the the H & P, but most are not. Medicare and our Corporate compliance have said the V70 series is inappropriate in inpatient settings. CPT does offer a modifier "A1" to append to the 90801 but no one in our corporate community (200 BH hospitals) have used it.

The feed back that I am getting is that most psychiatrist won't do the physical exam. Thanks for your help.
