Does anyone know how many insurance policies one persone can have? I had a patient showed up with 4 insurance policies this morning. We have never encountered someone with more than three.

Any input would be appreciated.

Four Insurance Companies

As a courtesy to our pt's we will file a claim up to three insurances companies. Anything over three the pt is responsible for filing. Most providers file claims as a pt courtesy not because they have to but to ensure the likelihood of receiving payment for service

Technically with the Healthcare reform there can be as many as six-6 plans that I'm aware of for coverage. Usually this occurs in my experience with an adult dependent child since they can stay on plans thru age 26 regardless if living at home or not or being married or not. The adult child can be the subscriber with coverage, then covered by a spouse and then covered by both natural parents and step parents so that is 6 coverages. So I guess be thankful its only 4.
