When an internal audit is performed for outpatient and radiology (professional component)services. Is the person performing the audits required to have a CPC?

Thank you!

Jennifer

I would think the person conducting the audit would have some type of credential especially if those being audited are credentialed as CPC or CCS etc.

Kelly,

I would think so. I know that everyone in our Audit/Compliance have some sort of certification. But our audits are always done by someone that is CPC or CCS credentialed.

How could an auditor not be certified and work in a compliance capacity?

I ask this, but I know also that folks can be "grandfathered" into positions. We'd still expect credentials in order to function properly in that role though.

There are no specific requirements (generally) for anyone in particular to hold coding certification.

I have never seen any jobs that didn't require some type of credential, performing in that capacity. I am aspiring to be an auditor or consultant, myself.

Which company is more geared towards inpatient/clinic/ER auditoring: NAMAS OR AHCAE? Thanks
