Patient presented with lumbar burst fracture.
The surgeon is performing a "hardware only" fusion (without allograft or autograft).
It is described as an "internal brace" T12/L1/L2 and once the fracture is healed the hardware (internal brace) will be removed.
It is percutaneous and K-wires will be placed into the pedicles, screws and towers placed at T12,L1&L2, towers aligned and rods placed.
I found closed and open fractures codes (22310-22315 and 22325-22327) but no percutaneous. I also found vertebral augmentation (22513-22514) but we didn't perform a vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty. Basic arthrodesis with instrumentation didn't see accurate either 22610-22614 and 22842.
I am finding very few resources on "internal bracing" and would greatly appreciated some additional information.
I would appreciate any information regarding this procedure and the proper coding.
Thank you,
Julie
