Wiki Is a finger a joint, is a thumb a joint?

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to find a source in writing which clarifies if a finger or a thumb is a joint or an upper extremity. I've tried to search the American College of Radiolgy website, and came up empty handed. Does anyone have anythng?
 
Upper extremity

I am pretty sure that you can not call the thumb a joint. When I look at our Terminology book it classifies the thumb as an upper extremity. ISBN: 978-0-323-05506-2 Mastering Healthcare Terminology

It might help if we knew why you needed the information. Do you need the name of the joints in the hands?
