We know there are certain words that mean the diagnosis is uncertain and should not be coded, such as "rule out" or "possible." I haven't figured out yet whether "impression" is another one. I looked for it in the ICD-190 guidelines on coding uncertain diagnoses, but don't see it. Is that because no, it doesn't signify uncertainty? I suspect that but don't want to assume I'm right.

In my experience, providers use the term 'impression' in the same way as they would 'assessment' - it's usually just a heading under which they state their findings. I have never taken it to mean uncertainty.
