I have a kid who is being seen with his mom and the dr says she is doing family therapy b/c she is working on the interactions between them and trying to take the negative emotions out of the parenting. Would this type of situation be family therapy or is this just regular therapy with mom present?

The response I have gotten in audits has been that family therapy is "the need to address harmful parental behavior, observation of the clien'ts behavior within the family context, working with the cleint and family to address complex interventions or to assess the ability fo the family to manage the client's care in a home environment."

Hope this helps.
