Hello,

A patient came in for IUD removal, no issues with removal. After BC options decided for oral contraceptive pills. Would I code Z30.432- encounter for removal of intrauterine contraceptive and Z30.09- encounter for other general counseling and advice on contraceptive.

No. The more appropriate code would be Z30.011 for initial prescription of contraceptive pills. There's an excludes 1 saying that a code from Z30.01- should not be coded with a code from Z30.4-. Reviewing other birth control options is typical work included in the IUD removal, so I would just code Z30.432.
