Hi,

IV med with IV fluid MDM for ED professional coding.
What this IV fluid - Do we only considered Nacl
IVPB can we also give weightage of IV fluid. Please suggest

NaCl is typically considered hydration therapy and is only coded if it is medically necessary for the patient and occurs separately (either before or after) from the medication infusion. If the NaCl is only being used to keep the line open, to flush the line, or is infused at the same time as the IV med, it is bundles with the medication infusion and is not a separately billable service.

Actually, NaCl can be a therapeutic infusion, for example when administered for the treatment of hyponatremia. But that's in a small minority of cases, and most often NaCl, as normal saline, is used as you describe here.
