A patient came into the clinic with chest pain and we performed an EKG and an IV was inserted, but was never used. We never infused anything, just hooked the patient up just in case we needed to infuse. How do we code for the IV insertion if at all? Thanks.

This was an IPID.

keep in mind- if the facilty level coding includes insertion of an infusor (36000), it is included in your leveling and not separately reported.
CMS does not pay for 36000 as a lone service, and not too many third parties either..
