I recently earned my CPC-A with a 94% exam score and am trying to enter healthcare revenue cycle. I understand that many coding roles require experience, so I am also targeting billing assistant, charge entry, payment posting, denials, claims follow-up, patient accounts, and coding support roles. For those who started without experience, which job titles helped you get your first opportunity?

Since the revenue cycle starts with the registration process, I would recommend applying for a receptionist/registration position. I started working in a hospital as a registration/admissions clerk and then moved to a patient account position. I left the hospital for a position in a clinic as a patient account rep and also filled in at the front desk. I learned how to post payments, work denials, charge entry & coding. 21 years later, I am still with the same clinic. I am a CPC, credentialing specialist, and Billing/Coding Manager.
